Municipality

"Nidirriet", Niederried was first mentioned in a document in 1303, but a number of important finds show that people lived in what is now the municipal area in the past. During the construction of the Lake Brienz railway, stone tombs were discovered on Niederrieder Boden, which caused a stir. The squat graves come from people of the Stone Age and prove that the area around Lake Brienz was inhabited in an almost unbelievably early time - about 6000 years ago. Today the village has about 350 inhabitants and encourages you to linger. Niederried is ideally located for living or vacationing. By car or train you are in Interlaken in about 10 minutes, where the connections for the Jungfrau area are available. But Brienz, Lake Brienz and Meiringen-Hasliberg can also be reached in a short time. You can go shopping in Niederried on Mondays and Fridays in a sales van or in nearby Ringgenberg with a post office, bank, drugstore and various shops. But Interlaken and Brienz also have a wide range of shopping facilities. The pupils of the Real and Secondary School are taken to Ringgenberg by post bus.
